Ongoing assessment takes place on a daily basis through the marking of the children’s work, following the school’s marking policy. Children are given praise, encouragement and guidance on how to improve their work. They are often challenged to extend their thinking. Children also undertake summative assessments throughout the year, which enable the teacher to set each child individual learning targets.
All children are assessed against the Foundation Stage Profile on entry to the school.
Statutory tests (S.A.T.s) take place at the end of Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. Parents are informed of their child’s results as soon as possible in their end of year report.
Each year parents receive a written report on the progress and achievements of their children. Parents are invited to discuss this report in the summer term.
Open evenings are held in the Autumn and Spring terms. Parents are invited into school to discuss their child’s progress. Comments offering praise, from parents and teachers, are highly motivational and encourage the children to make further progress. Therefore parental attendance at these meetings is beneficial.
